LTYA is excited to offer another season of LTYATennis in fall 2008!

Program Details:

  • No experience is required! LTYA Tennis is an introductory tennis program intended for the novice tennis player. It involves a non-traditional approach whereby participants are taught using a progressive system which combines instruction with league play.
  • Fall 2008 registration is open to Lake Travis area girls and boys in grades 2 through 5.
  • The program consists of 8 2-hour sessions. The sessions will be held on Saturday mornings from 9:00 to 11:00 at the Austin Tennis Academy (located on Highway 71 next to the Field of Dreams complex).
  • Session dates are September 6, 13, 27; October 4,11, 25; November 1, 15 (rain date November 22).  NOTE CHANGE:  Amended session dates for November will be November 1, 8, 15.
  • The registration fee of $185 includes 8 weeks of instruction, a junior racquet suitable for program play, a participant T-shirt, and the LTYA facilities fee.   Tennis shoes and an upgraded racquet may be purchased for an additional fee.
  • Check out our ATA Newsletter for more information!

Coaching:

  • Professional Austin Tennis Academy coaches, college tennis players, and qualified ATA players will work together to coach the teams.
  • Parents will also be trained to coach LTYA Tennis teams, so each team will need at least one parent volunteer coach. (Please note that you will have an opportunity to pre-order an adult-size tennis racquet during the registration process.)
  • A note about the role of a "Parent Coach": LTYA Tennis is a pre-tennis game. Professional coaches and top junior players will be teaching the children skills. "Parent Coaches" will help with organizing the team, keeping kids orderly while participating, and providing some simple instruction. Skills like bumping the ball and safety issues like staying in your zone of the court are areas where Parent Coach volunteers will be helping.

Required Equipment:

  • Junior tennis racquet (included in the registration cost, as adult racquets are not recommended).
  • Tennis shoes (running shoes are not recommended, and can cause injury; the registration process includes an opportunity to pre-order youth or adult size tennis shoes at a discounted price).
  • A hat, water jug, and sunscreen.
  • You can visit the Austin Tennis Academy to view the widest selection of racquets, shoes, and other tennis-related merchandise in Austin.
