Expansion Plan
LTYA Makes Plans to Accommodate the Growth of the Lake Travis Community
The Lake Travis Youth Association currently has 89 acres under contract located on Highway 71 and Bee Creek. This is exciting news for the children of our community. Our common goal is to secure financing, complete the feasibility study by January 28, 2008, launch a capital campaign, and complete development by Fall of 2009.
In 1978, a group of friends got together with the goal to develop an Association for the area youth. The initial founders of LTYA included: Don & Pat Canada, John and Melvaree Pate, Jim and Sandy Hanson, Cliff and Jean Drysdale, Kenny and Sharon Coleman, Jim and Sharon Cook. Without the effort and dedication of these individuals and many other key volunteers since, LTYA would not exist today.
LTYA fielded its first sport in 1978, Soccer, and managed to put together 5 Soccer teams with approximately 55 kids for the inaugural season. Field Work Day consisted of clearing rocks and sticks at Dragon Park so the kids could have their first practice and games. The founders of LTYA later met with Bob Alpert of Lakeway and the group secured an agreement to play on the World of Tennis property, currently the site of the Lakeway pool. They then borrowed $5,000 to excavate the land, haul in dirt, install a sprinkler system and obtain equipment for the kids. The founders developed a membership campaign and charged a $240 lifetime membership fee. Within 90 days of establishing the note, LTYA paid the loan in full.
In 1992, LTYA purchased Field of Dreams, 19 acres located on Highway 71, which has been home to the kids of the Lake Travis area ever since. Without the community and volunteers like John Pate, Joe Bland, Alan Thompson, Jerry Lott, Ted Stewart, Brian Hickey, Don Richardson, Linda Sandlin, Dean Appling, Amy and Joe Borowski, Eddy Pierce, Tim Phillips and countless others donating capital, equipment and land development resources to LTYA, Field of Dreams may have never been built.
Today, LTYA sports include: Baseball, Basketball, Cheer, Football, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Tennis and Volleyball. In 2007, LTYA provided team sports to more than 4,000 kids.
LTYA is committed to providing all of the children in the Lake Travis area with safe, supervised recreational sports in an environment designed to build character and promote good sportsmanship.
The tremendous growth in the Lake Travis area has resulted in some unique challenges for LTYA. LTISD projects a 63% growth in total enrollment between the years of 2007 - 2016. LTYA projects a 61% growth in registrations over this same period. Unfortunately, LTYA is currently at capacity for field sports so these dramatic projected increases in registration have led us to develop plans for additional facilities.
The youth of Lake Travis need your help. If you are able to help in any capacity, please contact a member of the LTYA Board of Directors.
Additional details will be emailed to our membership and posted to our website www.ltya.org as they become available.
